Course Entry Requirements

To qualify for this individual support certificate and course, students must meet the following requirements:

  • To commence this program, your Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills must meet the required standards for ACSF LEVEL 2
  • You need to provide a current national Police Check (Police Check in VIC or Police Check in NSW depending on where you are commencing your course) or you must provide evidence that you have applied for a police check in your respective state as soon as possible.
  • Evidence of flu vaccination is required to undertake practical placement in an aged care setting
  • Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination may be required to undertake your practical placement. For more information, check with your workplace and/or state health department website.

Course Delivery

Distance training (VIC only)

9 months – Blended (online + 8 weeks practical placement)

For those not currently working in a community service organisation, you can study around your life commitments with a practical placement that we can help organise. Your dedicated trainer will provide feedback, guidance and support via email, skype and phone as well as arrange regular placement visits to complete observations and provide coaching.

Delivery details: Learners will complete 5 modules of online theory, a Simulation Day and 2 x 60 hr placement blocks over a 9-month period. Each module will be delivered through via online learning and will have eLearing content and theory assessment, including access to a virtual workplace to complete case studies and scenario-based projects. 

  • Simulation day: Learners will need to complete a 7 hour simulation day at our Southbank location prior to placement.
  • Practical placement: Minimum of 120 hours (2 blocks of 60 hrs) in a residential aged care facility that we can help you organise. Learners will need to complete two days per week over two four-week periods (placement block 1 and placement block 2). These will be two 7.5 hour days (excluding lunch break).

 

Virtual classroom (VIC only)

8 months – Weekday classes (2 days p/w): (15 weeks online classes + 15 weeks practical placement)

For those not currently working in a community service organisation, you can study via our supported virtual classroom study mode. Your dedicated trainer will provide feedback, guidance and support via email, skype and phone as well as arrange regular placement visits to complete observations and provide coaching.

Delivery details: Learners will complete 5 modules of online theory via a virtual classroom environment and then go onto complete a 7 hour simulation day at our Southbank location followed by a 120 hour practical placement.

  • Simulation day: Learners will need to complete a 7 hour simulation day at our Southbank location prior to placement.
  • Practical placement: Minimum of 120 hours in a residential aged care facility that we can help you organise. Learners will need to complete two days per week over a 15-week period for their placement block. These will be two 7.5 hour days (excluding lunch break).

Workplace Training

9 months – Blended (online + 8 weeks practical placement)

Our workplace delivery mode is designed for anyone who is currently employed in a community services organisation. Your dedicated trainer will arrange regular face-to-face visits to your workplace to complete observations, engage you in simulated assessment and provide feedback, guidance and support. Learners will need to complete two days per week over two four-week periods (placement block 1 and placement block 2). These will be two 7.5 hour days (excluding lunch break).

 

School Based Traineeship (VIC only)

12 months – Blended (online + 16 weeks practical placement)

This delivery mode is for school based trainees already working in a residential aged care facility. Your dedicated trainer will arrange regular face-to-face visits to your workplace to complete observations, engage you in simulated assessment and provide feedback, guidance and support. They will also be available by phone, video call and email.

Delivery details: Learners will complete 5 modules of online theory over a 12 month period. For school-based traineeship learners, a minimum of 120 practical hours scheduled over 16 weeks can be scheduled during usual working hours.

  • Practical placement: Minimum of 120 hours (2 blocks of 60 hrs) in a residential aged care facility that we can help you organise. Learners will need to complete one day per week over two eight-week periods (placement block 1 and placement block 2). This will be a 7.5 hour day (excluding lunch break).
