Grant Awarded To Support Selmar’s New Aged Care Initiative

Empowering and enhancing the sectors we work with is not just a goal or a value for us at Selmar but sits at the heart of everything we do. With this in mind, we are excited and proud to announce a new project that will help us do even more for the aged care sector.

We’ve been awarded a grant from the Victorian Government initiative, the Regional and Specialist Training Fund (RSTF), to launch a valuable project in Gippsland, Victoria. The RSTF has provided targeted funding intended for the aged care sector.

Funding grant to support new Selmar aged care endeavour

With the funding we have been granted, we plan to make as far-reaching and positive an impact as possible. In a nutshell, we are set to boost the number of Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) in the Gippsland region, creating lasting employment opportunities and tackling the pressing workforce needs in Australia’s aged care sector.

This project isn’t just about numbers — it’s about making a real difference in people’s lives. In saying that, the way we intend to achieve this is by recruiting 50 Individual Support Trainees across our partnered organisations in Gippsland.

The comprehensive training program we offer goes beyond the basics to ensure learners complete their studies feeling job-ready and equipped to reach their fullest potential. Our approach combines online facilitation and written assessments for knowledge components, complemented by hands-on, workplace-based training for practical skills.

We believe in supporting our learners every step of the way, which is why dedicated trainers and wraparound support are part of the Selmar training experience, including assistance with Literacy, Language, and Numeracy (LLN) for those who will benefit from it.

This initiative is more than just training — it’s about creating opportunities and genuinely changing lives. Our trainees will work towards completing a Certificate III in Individual Support, with the prospect of long-term employment in the aged care sector.

The opportunity to make a positive impact in the Gippsland community is one we are incredibly grateful for. We’re not just going in to fill jobs — it’s about boosting local employment and enhancing the quality of care to help build stronger, more resilient communities and provide compassionate care to those living in aged care.
