Child care jobs boom in Australia

Monday, April 27, 2020

Continued youth population growth in Australia, increasing female participation in the workforce, government reforms and increased government spending on the sector, combine to see Australia’s early learning sector boom and with that plenty of child care jobs for the foreseeable future.

According to the Australian Productivity Commission, in 2019, throughout Australia there are almost 1.3 million children attending government-approved childcare services, of which over 64.3% were below the age of 6 years old. Reports from the Australian Government have noted increased government expenditure on childcare fee subsidies is expected to reach $9.5 billion in 2022.

In 2019, statistics from the Australian Bureau of statistics have recorded a staggering 70% increase in couple families with employed mothers with children under 15.

Meaningful employment in a growing sector

The sector is not only growing in size, but importance. Research has shown how important early childhood education is in establishing self-esteem, resilience, healthy growth and the capacity to learn, with the benefits lasting into the school years and beyond.

As education providers, we also strongly believe that quality education and care can shape a child’s future and lay the foundation for a successful life. We believe that every child needs access to a trained educator equipped not only in pedagogy but also with the capacity to teach children how to be life-long learners, adaptable and able to meet challenges with confidence and a healthy sense of self-worth.

Indeed, there’s never been a better time to be a part of the early childhood education sector – especially for those who have the qualities required to be a early childhood educator and who want to make a difference in an important industry.
