What is the Unique Student Identifier (USI)?

If you’ve enrolled in a new course this year, you’ve probably heard the term Unique Student Identifier or USI. From the start of 2015, all students enrolling in VET courses are now allocated a USI.

Once you are given this number, you will be able to link your training record for every VET course you undertake in one spot. No matter where in Australia you study or what training provider you use, the courses you have completed will be saved against your USI.

The Australian Government estimates that three million Australians undertake nationally recognised training each year. The USI system is designed to help students, training providers and industries keep track of all these qualifications. It will also help the Government know how many students are in the VET sector and in what areas of study.

Benefits of the USI system include:

  • A single, secure and up-to-date record of your training
  • Immediate access to your whole training history, making it faster to share with future employers
  • Streamlining applications for credit transfers and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

You can be proactive and create your USI online right now –  It’s free and all you need is a form of ID.

As the USI system is managed by the Australian Government you will need to direct any questions or issues to the Unique Student Identifier Office www.usi.gov.au/Pages/contact-details.aspx

Just provide your USI number to your Selmar Course Advisor when you enrol and our Administration team will record your enrolment against your USI number. For more information, see the USI website.
