Sometimes it takes time to find your passion in life, and that holds true for Selmar aged care trainer Daniel Hau. For over 20 years, Daniel worked in management roles in hotels and catering, among others, but only found his true calling once he began working within the community sector.
While Daniel carved out a successful career managing multi-million-dollar businesses, he also found the work to be unrewarding and felt that he wasn’t reaching his potential. Daniel began looking into not-for-profit community services organisations, wanting to contribute to a good cause and help to make a difference in the community and this is when he felt he had found where he needed to be.
“I jumped at the idea and went back to study for my Certificate IV in Disability and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment with Selmar ”, says Daniel.
It wasn’t long before Daniel started his first disability support trainer role, and this drove his commitment to disability and community services even more. That was over ten years ago. Fast-forward to 2020, as a trainer with Selmar, Daniel now shares his expertise and passion with students who are also keen to embark on a meaningful career path.
“I love interacting with the learners, and with the stars of the community services sector”, says Daniel.
Daniel has more than a decade of diverse experience to share both in training and in the community sector. He has worked as a Support Trainer, group homes advanced support worker, a house supervisor among other roles across not-for-profit organisations and government initiatives.
Passing on this depth of knowledge from within the industry, along with management skills, Daniel knows what it takes to be an effective trainer, noting continuous knowledge improvement and skills development as vital. He adds that patience, caring and compassion are required to succeed too.
Daniel is dedicated to his learners’ success. In fact, when asked what the most rewarding element of his role as trainer is, his response is:
“Seeing learners progressing well with their units and finishing the course within their allocated time frame”.
Passionate and experienced trainers like Daniel give Selmar learners an in-depth training experience that sparks their own passion and shows them what truly rewarding work they are undertaking on their career journey.
