Get the best of both worlds when you study with Selmar

Thursday, June 23, 2022

The pandemic has been tough on learners, with most of our courses transitioning to online delivery. While online learning works for some people, others find it challenging. The ideal situation would be to have a mix of online and in-person delivery so that you can enjoy the advantages of both.

hybrid study

That’s exactly what we’re going to do. With the worst of the pandemic behind us, it’s time to return to the classroom – we’re excited to say that Selmar is bringing back face-to-face learning!

As part of the new offering you can study our CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care and our CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support through supported classroom learning. Get the best of both worlds and be on your way to a rewarding career in early learning or aged care.

Classroom-based learning is back

After two years at home we’re excited to see you in person. There are so many advantages to learning in the classroom, but if we had to list just five we would include:

  • Peer to peer learning
  • Getting help from your trainers in real time
  • Access to resources like computers and designated study spaces
  • Social interaction
  • Immersive learning

Peer to peer learning means learning from your classmates. You’ll work together to discuss material, answer each other’s questions, and support each other in a stimulating classroom environment.

In the classroom you will get help from your trainers in real time. If there’s something you need to clarify or discuss, your trainer is there to assist you right away.

Forget about unstable internet connections or sharing your study space with housemates, family and pets. Coming to campus means being able to access designated resources, like Wi-Fi and quiet study areas.

One thing we’ve been missing through lockdowns is social interaction. Connecting with others helps to make the learning experience more supportive and enjoyable.

Self-directed learning can be challenging. Coming to class provides structure and an immersive learning experience which can make learning easier.

Say hello to hybrid learning

The new delivery mode is a hybrid program designed for learner success.

So, what do we mean by hybrid? Basically, it means you’ll be supplementing what you learn in the classroom with further training online or by distance, depending on your course. We call this Supported Classroom Learning. The advantage of this delivery mode is that you get the best of both worlds.

Let’s break down exactly what the terms classroom, online and distance learning mean:

Classroom learning means coming to class in person or participating in a virtual classroom.

Online learning means supplementing class-time with further study online.

Distance learning means completing further paper-based study at home.

Hybrid learning combines all the benefits of class-time with the flexibility of learning online or by distance. Once the in-person component is over you will complete the rest of the course in your own time – but this doesn’t mean being on your own. You will have the support of your trainers the entire way through, including access to email and help coordinating practical placement.

Supported classroom learning: early childhood education and care

Early childhood education and care is a rewarding sector with many opportunities to progress your career. You will see children grow, learn and develop foundational skills which support them to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

Kick-start your career by studying childcare in the classroom with our Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

Classroom delivery details:

Duration: 9 months

Delivery: 12-weeks classroom study (2 days per week) followed by online learning and practical observations. In-class learning will take place on Monday and Tuesday, starting 20 June 2022.

Classroom Location: Southbank

To make it even easier, there is a virtual classroom option available for those who can’t attend in person. The virtual-classroom will take place on Thursday and Friday, with two intake periods beginning either 23 June or 25 August 2022.

Learning in the classroom is a great way to develop core skills like leadership, patience and teamwork – skills which make for better early childhood educators. You will develop relationships with your trainers and other experienced professionals with insight into how the early learning sector works. Developing these connections might even lead to employment opportunities after you finish your course.

Supported classroom learning: aged care

The pandemic has shown us how much we rely on our aged care system. It has also reminded us how important it is to promote the wellbeing of elderly Australians. It’s no secret that aged care is facing a skills shortage post-pandemic, and with so many good reasons to enter the sector, now is a great time to get on your way. Study aged care in the classroom with a Certificate III in Individual Support.

Classroom delivery details:

Duration: 8 months

Delivery: 12-weeks classroom study (2 days per week) followed by distance learning and practical observations. In-class learning will take place on Monday and Tuesday, starting 22 August 2022.

Classroom Location: Southbank

The classroom is one of the best places to learn core skills and make lasting connections. Face-to-face learning means developing relationships with your peers, trainers, industry leaders and professionals which may lead to employment opportunities down the line. Importantly, the classroom is where you’ll develop the interpersonal and soft skills which will make you a better carer – skills like adaptability, problem solving, promoting diversity and empathy.
